The same four processes apply to nearly everyone:

  1. Qualify for a visa to work as a nurse
  2. Complete the education assessment and credentialing
  3. Pass the NCLEX exam and complete the U.S. licensing requirements
  4. Find a US employer with a visa-eligible job available

You will be responsible for the fees and expenses associated with these processes.

USCIS (US immigration) requires international nurses to meet the visa requirements:

  • at least a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BScN, BN, BSN) from an accredited university. There are no US visa categories for diploma, practical, vocational, enrolled, auxiliary, associate or assistant nurses.
  • A valid nursing license
  • at least two years recent work experience as a nurse. Experienced nurses have many more opportunities than inexperienced new graduate nurses.

Then study the CGFNS website. This is the credentialing organization for foreign nurses who would Ike US nursing jobs.

CGFNS will start the credentialing process. Your university nursing courses will be evaluated for “equivalency” to US nursing curriculum standards. You must have a minimum number of instruction and clinical hours in five nursing areas. The most common deficits are in pediatric, psychiatric or obstetric/neonatal nursing. Remedial courses are available.

You may need an English exam if your university studies were not in English, or your country does not use English as its primary language.

CGFNS has a screening exam for international nurses that is required by many US states to be eligible to take the NCLEX nurse licensing exam.

You will need authorization from CGFNS to take the NCLEX nurse licensing exam. Prepare carefully. The NCLEX pass rate for international nurses is approximately 46%.

When you have passed NCLEX, you can apply for a nursing license from an U.S. state and begin to look for a visa-eligible job. To be clear, visa-eligible nursing jobs have no US citizen applicants.

CGFNS has a short list of ethical and reliable nurse recruiting agents. Beware of false nurse recruiting agents and practices.

Is it hard to pass nursing?

Nursing programs have a demanding credit load, and many nursing students stack challenging courses during the same term in order to fast-track their degrees. That could mean multiple critical exams falling on the same day or week. However, as long as you take the time to study and prepare, you should be okay.

What is the easiest nursing course to study?

An LPN or LVN program usually takes around a year to complete, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). What makes an LPN or LVN preparation program the easiest type of nursing education you can pursue is its focus on training for basic nursing services only and its quick completion time.
Which is the easiest subject in nursing?
If you are about to enter nursing school, it’s important to know what to expect from which class so that you can best prepare. What is the easiest class in nursing school? While this may vary from student to student, most seem to find that Nursing Fundamentals is the easiest class.
What to expect  form first year  for school nursing student?
You’ll have to manage your nursing courses, attend lectures, participate in small group projects, attend clinicals, and pass exams. There will come a time when you’ll decline a few social outings, pull all-nighters, or feel stressed out. At the end of the day, you’ve made the right decision to become a nurse.
